According to the National Cancer Institute, tea is one of the most ancient and popular beverages consumed around the world. It’s said that tea can be used to prevent cancer, however the UK Research Center for Cancer claims there is not enough evidence that supports the statement that green tea can reduce the risk for cancer. However there are many benefits to drinking tea.
- Compounds in green tea can improve brain function
What does this mean? Green tea contains L-Theanine which is an amino acid that has been linked to reduced anxiety, better immunity and improved quality of sleep.
- Green tea is an alternative drink to soda and other sugary drinks
Tea is a healthy alternative drink with no added sugars, plus it isn’t as hard on your teeth or health
- Helps maintain a healthy weight
Green tea is known to help the body regulate weight or possibly lose weight due to the compounds in the tea that speed up the metabolism.
- Lowering high blood pressure
Tea is thought to offer endothelial protection by helping blood vessels relax, allowing blood to flow more freely. It’s a high source of antioxidants that have been linked to better cardiovascular health.
- Balancing the liver
Not everyone realizes that everything you put in your body or on your body runs through the liver. With this being said, when you drink alcohol (which is hard on your liver) it affects your entire body and you may experience many side effects. Research from Japan shows that theanine is a powerful antidote to the effects of alcohol. If theanine is given to mice before or after they drink alcohol, it significantly lowers blood levels of alcohol.
